Know what you're comparing

Medicare has several parts and plan types, and they solve different problems. Here's what sits behind each one, and where to start if one of them is what you came for.

One plan that bundles Part A, Part B, and often more

Medicare Advantage plans are offered by private insurers approved by Medicare. A plan covers everything Original Medicare Part A and Part B cover, and many bundle prescription drug coverage and additional benefits into the same plan and the same monthly premium. Plans are approved county by county, so what's available to you depends on where you live.

Where Original Medicare fits

A woman in her sixties sitting at home

What it leaves open

Original Medicare has no annual out-of-pocket maximum and doesn't include prescription drug coverage. That gap is what Advantage, Supplement, and Part D plans are each designed to address in a different way.

Part A — Hospital
Inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice, and some home health care.
Part B — Medical
Doctor visits, outpatient care, preventive services, and durable medical equipment.

Straight answers before you start

How much does this cost?

Nothing. Comparing plans here is free. If you enroll in a plan, you pay the plan's premium to the insurer — using this service doesn't add any cost.

When can I enroll or switch?

Most people make changes during the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7). You may also qualify for a Special Enrollment Period, and there's an Initial Enrollment Period around your 65th birthday.

How long does it take?

Most calls take just a few minutes to an hour. Having a list of your regular prescriptions and doctors nearby makes the conversation more useful.

Who are you, exactly?

We're an independent Medicare plan comparison and referral service — not Medicare, not a government agency, and not an insurance company. We connect you with licensed agents and insurers who can help you compare and enroll.
